Do's and Do Not's When Dealing with Damage to Your Property.

Fire Damage

Do:

-Turn off AC to prevent spreading of smoke.

-Turn off all breakers if the fire has penetrated the walls or ceiling.

-Empty refrigerator and freezer if electricity is off.

-Save all fire related expense receipts.

Do Not:

-Enter damaged areas.

-Try and clean anything.

-Use electrical items.

-Use any medicine, food or beverages that may have been exposed to heat.

-Send garments to an ordinary dry cleaner.

-Throw anything away.

Storm Damage

Do:

-Contact a tree surgeon if tree removal is needed.

-Inventory damaged personal property.

Do Not:

-Attempt to tarp the house yourself.

-Enter damaged areas.

-Use electrical items.

Water Damage

Do:

-Shut off water immediately.

-Shut off power to damaged areas.

-Begin removing as much water as possible.

-Remove items from wet area.

-Contact water removal company.

Do Not:

-Throw anything away.

-Use electrical items in wet area.
